Assad Question

“Hundreds and hundreds of antigovernment protesters braved scattered gunfire from Syrian soldiers to march through a middle-class neighborhood in Damascus on Saturday, the biggest demonstration witnessed close to the heart of the capital since the country’s uprising started 11 months ago. ” New York Times

The government of Syria needs to step down and hand power to the protesters. It has become unfeasible for Assad to remain in power. It simply will not happen. The surrounding Muslim states will flood the country with weapons, and create chaos. And in that chaos Mr Assad will likely lose his life and his country, so to avoid such a scenario he should simply abdicate and flee.

Of course, even fleeing has turned into an issue: if he flees he will be tracked down and brought to justice for the killings. So what options does this guy have on table? None, really, he has made his future and now he has to accept it.
